This dress was simple and easy to make. I set out for a different look than what I got, which seems to be a recurring theme. Nonetheless, I actually really love this dress. I loved the idea of a drop waist, but I wanted the drop to go down about two more inches. I extended the top by about six inches, but I did not do it enough. I decided not to hem the edges of the skirt. What I want to go back and do is line that skirt and slipstich it to the seam.
I lined the inside rather than doing a rolled him on the neck line. I don't particularly like self-facings, so I decided to just line the whole top of the dress. With using a ponte knit, this made the seams super thick. I should rethink that next time.
For the sleeves, I cut two 30 inch pieces of fabric across and sewed them together with the exception of the side attached to the sleeve. I also had to sew up about five inches on each side since you see the hanging edges. I just made "tuck like things" when sewing sleeve seams and that achieved the flutter look that I got--which I happen to love. What I will go back and do to the sleeves is slipstich the edges of the sleeves down to the front and back of the dress for a more finished look. Other than that, I love it!
What do you think? How would you make it different? What touches would you add?
