Denim Love! I am building a collection of some high quality denim staples. Being that I love skirts and dresses--less pants and shorts--I decided to add to my collection with this skirt pattern. Overall, I do like this pattern and plan to make a fall skirt that would go great with boots. I don't think this skirt shines like it could because of my shirt choice. I actually planned on a different shirt that I was making to go with this, and I didn't have time to finish it. When I wear it again, I will wear it with the shirt that I was making for it that is brighter and will update the pictures.
Picture: I think the sun was shining in my face bad. Sorry for all of the frowning. :)
Fabric: I selected this Ralph Lauren navy stretch denim fabric. I wanted to make a skirt more practical for everyday wear, so I selected this fabric. Since I am a beginner and still learning a lot about fabric and textiles, I wasn't how this fabric would work. I wanted it to have enough structure and enough drape. I don't know if I would choose this fabric again because it wrinkles a lot. I am starting to find--so far anyway--denim fabric with elastane in it wrinkles quite a bit. I will probably select a wool fabric for the fall/winter.

Pattern Details: This pattern only has five pieces I

believe. I love the thick band and high wasted details. I also love that the inside is trimmed with double-fold bias tape. I would probably use some heavier interfacing for the waistband if I make it again. This is because of the size of my waist. If you have a small waist, this may not be necessary. I do like the pockets, but if your hands aren't in them, they pucker a little on the sides. I really hate that because the pockets really add to the skirt.

The bottom piece of the skirt is a serious fabric hog because of all of the tucks and pleats. I don't know if it is an error in printing, but the directions call for pleats on the side, but it loos more like a tuck. All of the points don't like up for the tuck. The finished picture looks like a tuck too. I think there is a discrepancy, but it could just be me too since I am a beginner. I fixed it by making a tuck sort of. :) I did the pleats and was too lazy to
undo them, so I did a tuck with the pleats already sewn. I know, don't judge me. When sewing again, I would just do a tuck.
The pattern does not call for a hem, so I just hemmed my fabric because the edges unfinished would have been a hot mess.
